چکیده

Most of the research performed in the area of turbo codes has considered only Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN) channels. While some work has extended the coverage of channel noise to fading channels, thus far little research has been performed with heavy-tailed noise distributions. This paper analyzes the performance of the turbo decoder for a class of heavy-tailed noise distributions consisting of the Gaussian mixture, double exponential , and Cauchy distributions. The decoder is modi-ed to handle non-Gaussian noise models without significantly increasing complexity. We show that the performance relative to channel capacity is nearly constant over the class of distributions, roughly mirroring that on the Gaussian channel. Also, we explore decoder robustness over the class of heavy-tailed noise.

Performance and Design of Turbo Codes on Rayleigh Fading Channels

Fading in wireless environments is a major obstacle to reliable communications. In order to mitigate the e ects of fading, channel coding is often employed. In this thesis, the performance and design of the channel coding technique, turbo codes, [1] is examined over Rayleigh fading channels. The thesis considers coherent BPSK signaling over both time-correlated and fully-interleaved Rayleigh, s...

Optimal Power Allocation for the Proposed Asymmetric Turbo Code for 3G Systems

We proposed a new class of asymmetric turbo encoder for 3G systems that performs well in both “water fall” and “error floor” regions in [7]. In this paper, a modified (optimal) power allocation scheme for the different bits of new class of asymmetric turbo encoder has been investigated to enhance the performance. The simulation results and performance bound for proposed asymmetric turbo code wi...

Non-binary turbo-coded physical-layer network coding on impulsive noise channels

ELECT Non-binary turbo codes promise excellent performance for a wide range of applications and environments, but research in this area is sparse. The performance of a non-binary turbo code defined in GF (4) on a two-way wireless relay channel (TWRC) employing physical-layer network coding, which is affected by impulsive noise is investigated. Simulation results for binary and non-binary turbo ...

A Modified Unequal Power Allocation (upa) Scheme for Performance Enhancement in Bit Repetition Turbo Codes in High Speed Downlink Packet Access (hsdpa) System

In this paper, a modified optimal power allocation scheme for different bits in turbo encoder has been proposed to improve the performance of Turbo Codes system in High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) service. In a typical turbo code in HSDPA system, an encoder with code rate of 1/3 was used with bit repetition scheme or puncturing system to achieve code rate of 1/4. In this study, the aut...

Punctured Turbo Code Ensembles

We analyze the asymptotic performance of punctured turbo codes. The analysis is based on the union bound on the word error probability of maximum likelihood decoding for a punctured turbo code ensembles averaged over all possible puncturing patterns and interleavers. By using special probabilistic puncturing, we prove that, for a given mother turbo code ensemble [C] with a finite noise threshol...
